Austin Maestro Tandy Campervan

These pages only relate to the Tandy campervan conversion based on the Austin Maestro chassis.

Converted by Tandy on the Isle of Wight

These really must be the smallest campervans ever commercially produced.

Defining exactly how small is not easy.

Nobody would claim that the interior of the Maestro Tandy is spacious. It was never designed to be a home-on-wheels, I suppose it is fair to say that it is a car with sleeping and cooking facilities that you could use for a week-end away. The prime purpose of the van was for a very basic "overnight shelter"

It seems that they were converted mainly in 1989 and were registered as *DL ( the suffix for the Isle of Wight) .From what I have seen every van is fitted out differently but I cannot find out if that was based on consultation with each customer or if every "batch" was produced differently.

I am interested in contacting other owners and in displaying photos of their van and any other information that can be offered.

Can you tell me anything about Tandy Industries?
Can you tell me how many were produced?
How many are still on the road?
Any information that would help build up the story behind these vans.
